WebDoc-005  Brother HL-2240 Printer procedures

Note – any dim text (gray) is back office, and not necessarily important at the counter.

Process Summary:

Sometimes the Brother HL-2240 printer takes an error, and will not print.   Often with an error light.

This process takes you through a printer reset, to get the green Ready Light.

Problem... Yellow Toner light will not go off, printer will not print.

Solution... Reset the printer  (may have limited results, detect is number of copies since last flag gear reset)

Power off the printer...

1. Press and hold GO and turn power switch on.

2. When all 3 lights light up, release the GO button.

3. Press the Go button twice... (You will see the Ready light blink green every time you press the Go button)

4. All of the lights will light up

5. With all of the lights on... press and release the GO button 5 times... (You will see the Ready light blink green every time you press the Go button)

6. The ERROR light will start blinking... (This is expected.)

7. Close door and wait... The printer will cycle up... After cycling up, the GREEN READY light will be on solid.

8. You are now ready to print.

Problem... Drum light will not go off, printer will not print.   (detect is number of copies since last reset)

Solution... Reset drum life

1. Open front cover... switch power off

2. Hold down GO button while turning on power... until 3 leds light up... release

3. Press GO until ERROR lights... release

4. Press GO button until 4 LEDS light up

5. Close Cover

6. Press GO 3 times... drum report prints

Problem... Toner light comes on before toner is really gone   (detect is estimated pages from last flag gear reset)

Solution... Put HL-2240 printer into "continue" mode... run printer til physically no more toner

1. To enable Continue Mode, please follow the steps below:

2. Press the GO button 7 times (quickly). All of the LEDs should flash twice, and the Ready LED should turn on. Continue mode is now enabled.

3. To disable Continue Mode, please follow the steps below:

4. Press the GO button 7 times (quickly). All of the LEDs should flash once. Continue mode is now disabled.

Note - While in Continue Mode, the Toner LED will continue to flash or be on

Note - When a new toner cartridge is installed, this mode will be automatically turned off.
